SUMMER CAMP 2009 Weekly Events
Week One - Welcome Week Wilmington, DE.
New friends, new schedules, learning the ropes and the rules, packing our bags for our future travels, and just hanging out and getting to know our own ‘home base.’
Week Two – Spanish Week 1 Pacific Northwest & Alaska
Senora Traci is back this summer for some Spanish language exploration. We are so excited to have her back. We will be ‘traveling’ northward toward magical Alaska and the bountiful forests of the Pacific Northwest, exploring the natural beauties of these regions and the diverse cultures that make these regions ‘home.’
Week Three – Spanish Week 2 Pacific Southwest
Spanish Week 2 & Hollywood here we come! It is time to trade our snow boots for flip-flops and some home-made stylish shades. Whether sampling Tex-Mex specialties or ‘exploring’ the Grand Canyon, we will use our ‘imaginations’ to take us soaring far above these natural wonders.
Week Four - Marching toward the Capitol
We will be celebrating our ‘travels’ to the District of Columbia with a good old-fashioned picnic to celebrate Independence Day.
Week Five - “Way down South in the land of cotton…”
From the swamps of Florida to the old-southern charm of New Orleans, we will be exploring the history of southern hospitality. Jazz music, indigo blue, and a Dixie tune or two will abound in this week.
Weeks Six & Seven - Mid- East and Mid- West
It is time to explore America’s “Heartland.” Whether ‘fishing’ on the Great Lakes or ‘running’ through the hills of West Virginia, we will be exploring all the cultural aspects that find their ‘roots’ here.
Week Eight - Plains
Exploring the “Tornado Alley” and ‘storm watching’ make this area of the United States particularly thrilling to ‘journey‘ around. Tumbleweed is plentiful here and prairie life as it has evolved over the years will be explored.
Week Nine - New England, here we come!
From learning about our ‘Founding Fathers’ to living a day in the life of a young colonial, we will begin to explore our ‘American roots.’
Week Ten - Mid - Atlantic Region
Pack your hiking boots; it is time for us to explore the good old outdoors with our own nature trail. ‘Traveling’ through Amish country and then down to the rhododendrons of Virginia, we will move along the coastline and explore.
Week Eleven – ‘Aloha’ in Hawaii and then Homeward Bound
After a quick stop at the Haleakala National Park, we will make our way back to Wilmington, DE for some good, old-fashioned backyard fun with our end of the summer picnic.
