Weekly Themes and Activities

* Note: You may sign up for any combination of days/weeks within each theme

Week 1: Montessori Week (6/12 – 6/16): Happy summer 2017!  Purposeful practical life will hone our self-help and care of environment skills.  We’ll add a little taste of science, math and language work to fill our days this week. Let’s not forget to focus on grace and courtesy lessons to help us make new friends. Montessori magic abounds as we journey toward the best summer ever!

Weeks 2 & 3: Express Yourself (6/19 – 6/23 & 6/26 – 6/30): It’s all about you and what makes you the wonderful, unique kid that you are!  We will identify our emotions, have creative art experiences, all the while moving & grooving through movement and music. Discover what makes you ‘uniquely’ you and continue to build a fun learning community for our CHMS campers.

Week 4: Americana & Sports (7/3 – 7/7) No Camp Tuesday 7/4: Red, white, and blue, this one’s for you!  Celebrate the 4th with a scrumptious treat or two and show off your team pride.  We’ll highlight and play different sports and field day games throughout the week and celebrate America’s Independence Day with a picnic at the end of the week.

Weeks 5 & 6: Great Outdoors (7/10 – 7/14 & 7/17 – 7/21): What’s under that rock?  Perhaps it’s a creepy crawly spider or better yet, a slithering snake?  It’s time to embrace the ‘great outdoors,’ and explore our natural playground and nature trail. We’ll discover the various ecosystems that make up our Earth.  We will learn all about weather patterns by making our own soda bottle tornadoes, splatter art rainbows, and cotton clouds.

Week 7: Sensory Exploration (7/24 – 7/28): It’s time to explore our five senses through hands on discovery.  Glittery goop and ‘gross’ slimy goo to feel, tasting tantalizing ‘new’ foods, and exploring various textures will keep us busy! Listen to the pitter patter of the rain or the loud whistle of a train. Smell soothing lavender or sample fresh mint, flavors are a plenty in our week of exploration!

Weeks 8 &9: Folktales Folklore, Nursery Rhymes & Magical Mythology (7/31 – 8/4 & 8/7 – 8/11): Fairies, wizards, and shrinking brew… which one sounds fun to you?  Little Miss Mary, quite contrary sitting next to Humpty Dumpty, things could get mighty funky.  Zeus, Poseidon, Athena, and other tales from long ago come to life! Time to find your ‘inner actor/actress’ and explore the classic and modern tales that make the magic found in books something you can’t overlook.

Week 10: Montessori Week (8/14 – 8/17) No Camp Friday 8/18: Where oh where has the summer gone?  It’s time to complete our journey with a mix of Montessori lessons.  Familiar work will be back on the shelf, yay! Practical life, culture, science, math and language will fill our days. Our times at CHMS are the best, but there’s no time to rest.  Continue on exploring and enjoy the school year to come.  We thank you for a summer filled with lots of fun!
